The ImagesHere you will (eventually) find almost every photograph that has been recorded by my cameras since I resumed photography after the advent of the digital camera (the main exclusions relating to the privacy of the subjects). The cameras used were first, a Casio QV-300EX (from 2000 to 2003), and then a Minolta A1 (from 2003 on). Both have given me a lot of fun and satisfaction; I hope you enjoy some of the images. The SoftwareThis image browsing tool was written with my friends and myself in mind. It's a little unusual in that it attempts to completely automate the construction of the pages themselves; I upload images from my camera and 'publish' them by adding a single line to the permissions file. The result is a user interface which will show you almost every picture I have ever taken with a digital camera, if you ask it nicely. You may or may not find it interesting to see the failures as well as the successes; but the choice is up to you. It's an approach that I think works well for me, but that's because I'm (at least at present) not a post-production enthusiast; with the possible exception of cropping images that had to be taken very quickly (when the subject is a bird, a child, or some other small animal, for example), I like to think of the photographic process as finished at the moment I press the shutter release. The software for this website was almost entirely hand-written by me, in Perl; this is one of the few 'cold' pages you will see. At the time of writing it's well under 2500 lines of code, though it makes prominent use of the Image::Magick and Image::Info libraries to process and interpret the images themselves. —Stephen P Spackman
